Yes, you can remove the existing team member from your team.
To delete a team member Click and select the team member name from the list and click on the Add/Delete team and click on Delete.
The moment you click on the delete option, the existing team member will be removed from your team and his existing files and business will be moved to another user as per your prefrence.
